March 15, 2026 Laszlo Gardony Trio
Jazz pianist and composer Laszlo Gardony's performances feature a compelling mix of original compositions, distinctive interpretations of jazz standards, and evocative, spontaneous improvisations—hallmarks of his spirited and dynamic performances. "A formidable improviser who lives in the moment” (Jazz Times), Gardony has performed in 28 countries and released 14 albums on the Sunnyside, Antilles, and Avenue Jazz labels during his distinguished decades-long career. Winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition, Gardony has been noted for his “fluid pianism” by The New York Times, and the legendary Dave Brubeck called him “a great pianist.” His 14th album, "Close Connection” as well as his 2017 solo album “Serious Play” were listed among the Best Jazz Albums of the Year by Down Beat Magazine. “Serious Play” and his 2006 live sextet album, “Life In Real Time” were also named one of the Ten Best Jazz Albums Of The Year by the Boston Globe. A Professor of Piano at Berklee College of Music – who also teaches at Harvard University’s Jazz Combo Initiative – Gardony continues to divide his time between composing, recording, concerts, and teaching, and he remains, above all, committed to living an inspired, truthful, and productive life in music.

Hartford Public Library’s history spans more than 235 years. We can trace its very beginnings to the Library Company, formally organized in 1774 by a few subscribers to purchase a "collection of useful and religious books". And now, the library is a national leader in redefining the urban public library in the 21st century as an innovative and stimulating place where people can learn and discover, explore their passions, and find a rich array of resources that contribute to a full life.
