April 12, 2026 Hidemi Akaiwa Quartet – Sound & Space
Japanese pianist and composer Hidemi Akaiwa is an artist working at the intersection of jazz, improvisation, contemporary classical music, and microtonal practice. She earned a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music and completed her Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory.
She is the recipient of the Toshiko Akiyoshi Composition Award and has studied with David Fiuczynski, Joe Morris, Ran Blake, and others.
A member of Screaming Headless Torsos, she performs internationally, presenting work that integrates Japanese aesthetics, prepared piano, and microtonality at venues including MoMA New York.
