Join us for a transformative wellness series that explores somatic abolition and mindfulness through movement, meditation, and community healing.
Somatic Abolition & Mindfulness Series is a 7-week experiential program designed to help participants reconnect with their bodies, build emotional resilience, and engage in practices rooted in racial healing, mindfulness, and embodied liberation. Through breathwork, guided meditation, gentle movement, and collective reflection, this series invites participants to explore what it means to hold space for both personal and communal healing in today’s world.
The series launches with an introductory session on Wednesday, July 31 at the Park Street Library (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM), offering a foundational overview of somatic abolition and mindfulness practices. The heart of the series continues at the Sterling Street Sanctuary & Nature Reserve, where participants will meet every Thursday from August 1 through September 5, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, surrounded by nature and intentional space for healing. The program concludes with a closing circle and reflection session at the Albany Library on Tuesday, September 10 (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM).
This series is open to adults of all backgrounds and is ideal for those seeking tools for healing from racialized trauma, stress, and disconnection. All sessions are free and open to the public.

The Albany Branch Library endeavors daily to maintain its role as one of Albany Avenue’s most vital resources. The Albany Branch was established in 1926. It was first located in the Northwest School and then in rented quarters at 1239 Albany Avenue. The branch’s present location at 1250 Albany Avenue opened in February 1950 in a building designed by H. Sage Goodwin. In 2011 a new 8,000 square foot facility on the corner of Albany and Blue Hills Avenues replaced the sixty-one-year-old structure.
